Pip Thornton is an artist and researcher based in the School of GeoSciences at the University of Edinburgh where she explores the politics of existence in the spaces of digital capitalism. She is primarily interested in how words are monetised by digital technologies, using poetry and artistic intervention to visualise the tension between the aesthetic and economic value of language as it flows through digital platforms such as Google Search. She has been featured in WIRED (UK), and her work Newspeak (2019) was shortlisted for the Lumen Prize for Art and Technology in the AI category.
